The city of Annapolis is served by Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI), which is located north of Annapolis, in the city of Baltimore. Annapolis Transit operates regular bus transport, connecting the airport with downtown Annapolis and beyond.

Within the city there are regular buses as well as free trolley shuttles, which travel to major destinations in Annapolis. Taxis are also on-hand, together with car hire. The city center is fairly compact and most of the main attractions can be reached on foot.


Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI) / Arriving by Air

Most international travelers to Annapolis will arrive at Baltimore Washington International Airport. This large and modern facility receives flights from more than 20 international destinations and serves 20 million passengers per year. The Annapolis Department of Transportation (ADOT) C-60 Northstar bus route connects the airport with Annapolis city center, with services operating every hour and a journey time of 45 minutes.

Car Rental

All major American car rental travel companies are represented in Annapolis. Car hire is available from the airport as well as from the city center. Renting a car is a good option for exploring the areas surrounding Annapolis, but parking within the city itself can be a problem. The Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium offers excellent parking and free shuttle bus transport to the city center.

Buses and Coaches

The Annapolis Department of Transportation (ADOT) operates efficient and reliable bus travel which connects all of the major tourist attractions, as well as the Navy Memorial Stadium and the airport (for bus schedule information call: +1 410 263 7964). The Maryland Mass Transit Authority (MTA) operates several coach services to destinations within the state of Maryland. Greyhound offers coach transport from Annapolis to several major cities nearby, such as Baltimore and Washington D.C. From these cities coaches are available to destinations farther afield.

Boats and Ferries

Annapolis water taxis operate all along Chesapeake Bay, as well as to and from boats moored at Spa and Back creeks. Taxis

Taxis in Annapolis are licensed and maintained by ADOT. The Annapolis Department of Transportation has a fleet of 160 cabs that can provide transport to any destination in the area. Taxi stands are located at the foot of Main Street, Washington Street and West Street.

By Foot

Annapolis is a fairly small town and walking from point to point is feasible. Traveling on foot is an excellent way to appreciate the quaint colonial architecture and warm small town atmosphere of Annapolis. Keep and eye out for markers which designate buildings of historic interest.
